Although Murmansk is situated beyond the Arctic Circle, it's much warmer here than in other northern regions. The average temperature in winter is -10/-25 °C. Of course,it can be colder sometimes. However, that's usually an exception; the coldest temperatures are traditionally in late January or early February. Snow covers the Kola Peninsula from mid-October until mid or late May.
Of course, it can be salted, smoked, or dried fish — cod, halibut, salmon, or Murmansk ruffe. Tundra berries jam, sauce, or liqueur can also be a nice souvenir. Also, fur and horn products from northern reindeer would be an excellent thing to bring back home.
Blizzards are quite common during winter in the Kola Peninsula. As professional guides, we always check the current forecasts, the amount of snow, and wind speed. Depending on this data, we adjust the program as needed. After all, it's better to postpone a trip to Teriberka for another day than to get stuck overnight in the middle of tundra and wait for snow plows to come.
You can possibly do it, but certain caution and preparation is required. Even in summer, the sea temperature does not go higher than 5°C, so if you have never dived in cold water before, you should do this very carefully.
Muscles can easily cramp from the cold water if you are not used to it. So if you decide to take a dip, you must evaluate your strength and not swim too far from the shore. After swimming, make sure you can quickly reach a warm shelter and warm yourself up.

- a warm winter jacket (windproof is much better)
- fleece sweater
- thermal underwear
- warm windproof pants
- warm winter boots with high shafts and thick soles

The level of service on the Kola Peninsula varies depending on the location. In Murmansk, everything is fine and nice. Not everywhere, of course, but if you go with us, you’ll always eat in the best restaurants and stay in comfortable hotels. The service in Teriberka is a bit more humble. It's a small village on the sea shore where you can dive in the atmosphere of the past. But with each passing year, the service in Teriberka is getting better and better.
